Julia Mintzer

Mezzo-Soprano

Julia Mintzer is a mezzo-soprano and stage director working in the United States and Europe. She was a member of the Junges Ensemble at the Semperoper Dresden and a young artist at the Washington National Opera.

Last season she returned to Washington National Opera as Hansel and to the Dresden Semperoper as Mercédès. This season she joins the Landestheater Schleswig-Holstein to sing the title role in Carmen and Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda, returning next season for Santuzza and Giulietta.

Julia made her debut at the Glimmerglass Festival in David Lang’s Little Match Girl Passion. Julia directed Fidelio with period orchestra Grand Harmonie at Princeton University, and this spring she directs an all-female cast of La Bohèmefor Metrowest Opera. She has developed and directed new works at the Helsinki Festival, Venice Biennale, Cornell University. She graduated from The Juilliard School and the Boston University Opera Institute and was an Apprentice at Santa Fe Opera.
