Enough! Violence - an Open Secret, a Common Responsibility
Violence against religious sisters is an open secret. Even pope francis at the beginning of 2019 admitted that the problem exists and we need to do more to stop it. What has changed since then? What have we done with this knowledge?
Speak up! We denounce Spiritual Abuse and Manipulation
Very often beginnings of the abuse are difficult to mark for the person who experiences it. The first steps can consist of subtle manipulation and gaining trust. The misuse of religious categories as obedience, god’s will or sacrifice has a terrifyingly strong and destructive power, especially on young persons.
Feel free! End to Sacramental Blackmailing and Abuse of Vows
According to the report prepared by women religious superiors in India, even 25% of sisters experienced Sacramental Abuse: Priests conditioned the administration of the Sacraments on private sympathies. Numbers of sisters whose Freedom and Vocation have been abused by manipulated lecture of three Vows (Obedience, Poverty and Chastity) are difficult to estimate.
Stop! Culture of Silence and Co-clericalism of Women are not an Option anymore
There are so many factors that prevent women from speaking up about Injustice and Sufferings: cultural, psychological, institutional and many more. Also lack of female Solidarity is among them. Why do we let those courageous Individuals, who stand up and fight for Justice be so lonely and even punished for their Integrity?
Condemn! Complete Solidarity with Sexual Abuse Survivors
Mistrusted, accused, victimised, expelled from communities – those who experienced Sexual Abuse in the church context very often go through additional sufferings when they try to denounce the Crime. We, as a Community, need to listen to them, believe them and show them our unconditional Solidarity. And this is just a first step to Justice.
Admit! Reckoning with the History of Slavery and Segregation in Catholic Women's Religious Life
Presentation of a paradigm-breaking book “Subversive Habits” by Shannen Dee Williams. It provides the first full History of black Catholic Nuns in the United States, demonstrating how master narratives of Women’s Religious Life and Catholic Commitments to racial and gender Justice fundamentally change when the lives and experiences of African American Nuns are taken seriously.
Respect! Freedom of Religion vs Gender Discrimination
What happens when under the Excuse of Freedom of Religion other Human Rights are violated? Which of them are more important to others? Are Human Rights universal and should be respected by the religious Institutions? Why and when they are in Conflict?
End! My God doesn’t discriminate - My Church does
As young german Catholics, we live in parallel Worlds: while Marriage for all has been introduced in Germany, the Roman Catholic Church is arguing about whether queer couples should even be allowed to be blessed. While there was a ruling female Chancellor for 16 years, since John Paul II nothing seems further away than Equality in Catholic Ministries. What Church Structures have to do with God* is the subject of a Discussion between four young Catholic Women.
Ratify! False tolerance of Human Rights in the Catholic Church?
An intense debate between Theologian, Religious Sister with a doctoral Degree in canonical Law, political Scientist and catholic queer Activist. Why is catholic Church as Institution that is preaching social Justice into the World so reluctant to fight Discrimination inside its own Structures?
